My friends Arnoldo and Mandy had to count the minutes as their newborn, Ava, went into open heart surgery. Every minute of waiting, praying, and hoping for their daughter must have been agonizing. 

We have been told that Ava is out of surgery and in recovery. 

I do not know my friends insurance situation, but I do know that even under the best of circumstances, there are costs associated with taking off work, medical copays and the like.
