Hi, if you don't know me, my name is Sheldon Rosenberg. My young family and I live on an organic apple orchard in Sonoma County, CA. It is with great concern that I have been watching the Syrian refugee crisis unfold.
With 8% (300,000) of the 4 million Syrian refugees landing on Lesvos, an island of 80,000, and recent events which have left 50 dead on the beach-most of which were children-a group of your friends and family have decided they can no longer watch from the sidelines. This crisis requires our active participation.
From November 24 thru December 22, I will be traveling to Lesvos, Greece in order to do what I can to help both the refugees and the citizens of Lesvos with this crisis. Through the generosity of an anonymous supporter, funds are available for another individuals travel expenses to and from Lesvos-if you can make the trip please reach out to me as soon as possible!
Our purpose in setting up this funding page is to gather funds we can use while in Lesvos to buy goods and services needed by the refugees. Dry socks, under wear, shoes, diapers, sanitary items, water, medical supplies, food, etc. all money collected will be used to directly aid the refugees. None of the funds collected will be used to support myself or other volunteers while in Lesvos. In order to have complete transparency, all purchases will be recorded for review when requested, and of course we will update the campaign with photos and stories of their support. When I leave, and if there is money remaining, it's my intention to donate the money to the local Starfish Foundation-as well as create a permanent supply channel from us to them. This situation isn't going to get better in the coming months. Winter is coming, and the refugees have already begun to feel this shift as several boats have capsized leaving many missing or dead.
Because of this, I ask you to give. Give what you can-either to this fund or another. They need our help, it's been rumored to have been leaked to the Gaurdian that the UNHCF is near bankruptcy-never having expected to deal with a crisis of such magnitude. And, I ask that you share what you learn with your friends, family, and co-workers. If you feel it's worthy, please share this funding page. Every little bit helps.
