On Monday, September 9, 2024, my brother-in-law Ryan suffered a significant heart attack, turning my sister Heidi and their children’s world upside down. What began as a normal day surfing in Georgia quickly escalated into a series of life-saving surgeries, including the placement of two stents. Ryan did well with this surgery and was alert and talking to Heidi. Early Tuesday morning, Ryan went into cardiac arrest, requiring a heart pump and two additional stents.

Since then, Ryan has been sedated to allow his heart to heal. While doctors have given us reason to hope, Ryan’s journey to recovery will be long and uncertain.

While I’m far away, I can still feel the emotional strain this is taking on my sister Heidi, my niece, and nephew. The weight of watching a loved one endure such a severe health crisis is immense, and the growing medical bills only add to the stress. Heidi needs to focus on Ryan and their children without the added worry of financial burdens.
