Hi friends and family,
Thank you for finding Penelope's page.
Our precious baby Penelope Rose was born on 01/06/2023 with an incredibly rare congenital disorder known as " Persistent Cloaca " which affects 1 in every 50,000 newborn girls.
- The causes of this condition are unknown.
- One symptom of this condition; Increased abdominal pressure, prevented Penelope's lungs from fully developing while in utero.
- Penelope has undergone 3 emergency surgeries; her recovery and respiratory development are under 24/7 monitoring.
- She will need to undergo an additional round of corrective surgeries and monitoring before being cleared to go home.
- Her stay in the NICU is currently estimated to range anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months.
One parent is allowed to stay with Penelope at a time. Rebekka (Mom) and I have been rotating our stays at the hospital, while our 3-year-old son, Ezekiel, stays with Grandma and Grandpa.
- Ezekiel is having a rough time coping and trying to understand why our family can't be together during such a difficult time.
- We'd love to get a hotel room near the hospital where the three of us could be together nightly, but with $154/night being the average local rate for a room, it is not financially possible.
After exhausting all resources, the time to ask for help has come.
- We are reaching out to our community for help in any way possible, whether it be through donations or simply hearing our story.
- Every little bit helps, and we are incredibly grateful for any support we receive.
- The fundraising goal of $6,468.00 represents the average cost of a room per night in San Francisco, CA, for a length of 6 weeks ($154.00 per night x 42 nights = $6468.00)
Thank you all in advance for your kindness and generosity. We truly appreciate it and will keep you updated on Penelope's progress through her journey.
Thank you,
Penelope, Ezekiel, Rebekka, and Joel.
