Steve’s Story

To those who don’t know on the 02.11.17 I was diagnosed with cancer to the eye (Ocular Melanoma)

This was picked up by the amazing staff at Specsavers after I had slightly blurry peripheral vision.

Ocular Melanoma is very rare, 6 in every million and mostly known in the age range of 65+ (Of course we all know I like to be one of a kind.)

I underwent Proton Beam Radio Therapy treatment last week. Due to the location of the tumour I will be losing the sight out of my left eye. Unfortunately this is now going to be a lifelong thing, as although the tumour I have has been treated with Proton Beam, I will never be classed cancer free.

The risk of spreading is a 50/50 chance. Due to the rarity of the cancer there is not yet a cure if it spreads to anywhere else in my body.

I will be setting up a fundraising page through cancer research so any money that friends and family raise will go specifically towards Ocular Melanoma.

The least I can do is raise money for research to be undergone to try and find a cure for this shitty disease!

Every 3 months I will be having check-ups to assess if the tumour is shrinking from the Proton Beam and every 6 months for the duration of my life I will be screened to see if spreading has occurred. So let’s hope the rest of 2018 brings good news!!

If there is one thing I can ask you all to do.... then please go and get your eyes tested! Even if the least that comes out of it is that you get told you need glasses at least I know I’ve spread the word for making people aware
