On July 2nd, Mattie's whole world changed. She woke up that morning with hip pain and couldn't feel her foot. Annie (her mom) took her to the ER where they did and x-ray and MRI and found a mass in her leg. She then got the dreaded news that she has cancer. Mattie was then transported to Sutter Sacramento where she underwent more tests over the week to determine the type of cancer On July 10, a Broviac line was inserted and she started chemo that night. Mattie has a long road to recovery , but she is a brave, smart, and strong 19 year old who has the fight of her life on her hands and family and friends who love and support her dearly.
Mattie has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Synovial Cell Cancer. This is a rare and aggressive cancer, but she is ready to fight! She is currently undergoing her 2nd round of chemo (inpatient). Added to her monthly 3-4 day inpatient treatment she will start radiation treatment 5 days a week for 5 weeks. She will need to take a "targeted" drug in pill form 3 times a day. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for 12 weeks out to remove the tumor in her leg.
Annie is Mattie's rock and is with her 24/7. Doctors are saying that treatment could be up to a year long. With that being said both Annie and Mattie will not be able to work with the intensive treatment plan, doctor and clinic visit, and hospital stays. The financial hardship on the family is one thing that they should not have to worry about. Please consider donating to this amazing girl and her family as they take on this cancer fight with strength and bravery. #mattiestrong
