For the past year and a half my baby girl, Emma, has been suffering through a lot of awful symptoms. It started with significant depression, which led to a lot of anxiety. She suffers from headaches, body aches, fatigue, weight gain and other symptoms I cannot share. We have been through many doctors visits, blood work, invasive tests, MRI, etc. We finally got a diagnosis a few weeks ago and was waiting for a neuro-surgical consult, which was today. Emma has Cushing’s Disease, which is a tumor on her pituitary gland. The neurosurgeon performs this surgery along side an ENT. They will be going through her nasal cavity into the brain to remove the tumor. The neurosurgeon was very thorough in explaining things to us, which is great, but it was also very overwhelming. There is a 60-70% success rate with this surgery. However, this surgeon personally has a higher success rate. Everything depends on if they can remove the whole tumor and if they do not damage anything while they are in there. There are so many risks, as with any surgery, but they are very scary. I cannot go through them all, but you can google it if you really want to know. We are looking at January 11th as a possible surgery date. She will be in the hospital for around 3 days and will be out of work for 6 weeks. She will not be able to lift anything for a minimum of 2 months and cannot blow her nose for around the same amount of time.
She is 24 yrs old and has already suffered so much. She has a steady job and works hard, but they do not offer any paid time off. They will most likely give her the time off, but she will not be paid. Together, I believe we can help relieve some of Emma's financial stress, so she can focus on getting well.
We cannot thank you enough for your kindness, well wishes and support. Please consider sharing this for Emma.
Sending love to all who are reading this.
