Spurn Bird Obs - Inter-Peninsular Bird Race

Tax deductible
Bird migration is of course a global phenomenon and in 2015 the committee of SBOT agreed that the observatory should look at the concept of ‘twinning’ with other observatories on an international basis. Five years on and the Friendship Agreement between the bird observatories at Cape May, Falsterbo, Long Point and Spurn is still going strong. To showcase both this and the great autumn migration and birding at each location, we thought it would be good fun and a great way to showcase the Friendship Agreement between the bird observatories at Cape May, Falsterbo, Long Point and Spurn, and the great autumn migration and birding at each location, if we held a bird race between the four observatories.  Because of the Covid-19 restrictions on international travel, our young professional exchange visits for 2020 have had to be postponed, so this is also a nice way of staying in touch with our friends overseas.

We hoped that some of you may be willing to sponsor our teams, as they attempt to see more species than our European and American counterparts between 5pm Friday 11th and 5pm Saturday 12th September! This money will be used to help fund our young professional exchange visits, when they are able to resume.  The exchange provides younger birders who are strongly aligned to SBOT an amazing opportunity to:
- Develop their knowledge and experience of the work of overseas bird observatories
- Increase their awareness of key international bird migration and conservation studies
- Contribute to the work of the host observatory in a voluntary capacity
- Develop new networking opportunities to enhance the Friendship Agreement
- Return to their home observatory with new ideas for possible implementation
- Act as young birding ambassadors to promote international youth birding relations

Whether it be a fixed amount or an amount per species (i.e. 10p per species, £10 for 100 species), any donation will be massively helpful and gratefully received! If you wish to donate via the latter, please get in touch with Kieran or any other member of the SBOT committee and we will let you know how many species we record after that race has ended!
