Spudster needs our help!
Donation protected
Spudster ended up at the North Fork animal welfare league after living in a van back in 2014. He lived at the shelter for years waiting for his home. Finally in March of 2016 He found the perfect home ! We transported him to this perfect home and they love him very much , we get great updated pics all the time. However today his Adoptive parents contacted us with very sad news ,but you can help! Spudster has been referred to the Veterinary School at Auburn University. He has stenosis of the spine with a pinched nerve which needs repair in order for him to be pain free. His vet found an old injury of his back right CCL which was untreated and healed very poorly. The vet feels that this injury plus the additional wear on his back left knee while compensating for the left leg, plus the pinched nerve, is the reason his gate is so poor. Spudster hobbles because he is in pain from the pinched nerve and the damage to his back legs. The vet feels the ceroid lipofuscinosis is not the primary reason for the poor ambulation abilities in his hind legs. Spuds regular vet could replace his knees and repair his ccl, as he is an orthopedic vet. However he just does not do spinal neurological surgery so he has refered Spuds to Auburn. The vet feels the surgery will cure the pain in his spine and the knee surgery will correct his gate, which will lessen the tension on his spine.
Spuds regular vet recommended euthanasia for him if this is not done , as he is in constant pain. This stunned his adoptors and they said nnnoooooooooo!!!! He is on pain meds which are helping, but long term use of them may result in gastrointestinal distress. Even on the pain meds, he still cries out in pain whenever he has to get up. They have gotten a sling for his back legs to assist him in his movement and walking outside. We discussed a set of wheels, but this would not address his pain.
All money not used towards Spudsters care , willbe donate to NFAWL the shelter Spuds came from !
Please help us help him!!! He deserves so many more happy years being loved in this great home pain free!!
