The Springfield First Aid Squad was one of the many buildings destroyed by Hurricane Ida.
Throughout the night of the storm, our crews tirelessly worked to assist our community. From members answering distressed phone calls, helping evacuate residents by foot and rescue boat, setting up an evacuation shelter, and of course responding to our regular medical calls, we did everything in our power to keep you safe.
The storm has left our building in shambles. Our recently renovated basement was submerged in over a foot of water. We lost vital supplies and appliances such as our couches, furnaces, washer and dryer, PPE, medical supplies, and HVAC system. Worst of all, our newly installed main building generator was lost as well.
As a non-profit organization we rely on donations from our community that we serve to remain in operation. Though we have volunteers donating their time, this is simply not enough. As the storm progressed, 4 of our volunteers even had their own personal cars totaled due to the severity of our property’s flooding. During normal circumstances we have members spending 18 plus hours here at a time. This building is our home. We need to ensure that our home is safe and habitable for us.
Help us continue to help you.
Any donation helps!
Love,
The Springfield First Aid Squad Family ❤️
