Spring Magazine is a magazine of socialist ideas in action. We strive to centre anti-racism and anti-oppression in all our work , inside and outside our organization. In doing so, we are committed to building an international, multi-racial working-class movement to win reforms in the here and now, and finally replace capitalism with a system based on the needs of the planet and all its inhabitants.
That’s why we are launching our 2021 Spring Fund Drive: to run our BIPOC leadership program and support new leaders, and to expand our staff resources to support the many new writers, contributors, and members of Spring Magazine.
BIPOC leadership program : last year we offered a socialist leadership program for Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC). Through the Spring into Socialism program, three Spring leaders—Mariam, Loretta, and Rechev—researched, developed, and led a six-part educational series. By sharing their own knowledge through the lens of socialist theory, they injected fresh insights and a renewed urgency into the tradition of socialist organizing. The sessions drew large audiences, strengthened the networks of people committed to revolutionary change, and we are keen to offer the program again.
Socialist journalism : last year our publication also expanded, from 3 to 6 original articles per week, and from 35 writers in 2019 to over 75 writers in 2020. This amplified more struggles, but it required more time working with new writers and artists, and expanding our social media presence. We complemented our volunteer team with staff support but need more resources to sustain and expand our staff time, to further amplify the many struggles of 2021.
Our 2021 Fund Drive begins on the first day of Spring (March 20), and we are hoping you can contribute. If just 100 people donated $100, we will raise almost half of our $25,000 goal. We are incredibly grateful for any contribution, and promise to put every penny to good use.
