Spread the word: Medicaid Cares for Mississippi

As the parent of a child with a severe disability, I have seen firsthand the transformative care provided by Medicaid. Almost everyday I pick up the phone to call my representatives and urge them to protect the care that keeps my son at home and healthy. But calling can be tough: it’s hard to know what to say and harder still to get started calling.

I created Medicaid Cares for Mississippi to lower the barriers to advocacy for people across Mississippi who will be affected by cuts to Medicaid—which is all of us. 638,000 Mississippians receive Medicaid, including 1 in 2 children and 2 in 7 seniors. Cuts to Medicaid will lead to the loss of providers, the closure of hospitals, and fewer options for those with insurance.

Medicaid Cares for Mississippi provides pre-stamped, pre-addressed postcards that allow individuals to advocate for Medicaid. We’ve partnered with doctors, churches, not for profits, and medical facilities to distribute and collect nearly 2000 postcards to date.

So far, I’ve paid for most of the postcards by myself, but as the project has grown it’s getting more expensive. It’s about $0.89 per postcard—including the stamp. I’m collecting money so we can continue to provide these cards to continue to advocate for healthcare for all Mississippians-especially the most vulnerable.
