Over the past three years, Matcha Mama has been building not only a small business, but a family in the Mexican Caribbean. Since opening in 2017, we have grown from a small shack on the Tulum beach road to a team of 20 employees serving delicious and healthy food across two locations. Most of our employees have been with us since inception. The mission of Matcha Mama is “simple life” and is why we have built an eco-friendly operation that is nearly plastic free and 90% zero waste. We have always focused on the wellbeing of our team, our community, and the environment and, season after season, we have been happy to serve so many wonderful people coming from all over with smiles and good vibes.
Like many across the globe, we are facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its devastating effect on Tulum, the hospitality industry, and the world. We have ceased operations completely on our beach road location and we are currently working with local growers to serve the community with product deliveries and produce baskets. To protect our team and our community, however, we will be ceasing even these operations shortly. This will be devastating for our staff and their families who rely on a healthy running business to get them by week to week. Unfortunately, in Mexico, there is not yet any governmental aid or support available to us.
Finding ourselves with no alternate solutions, are asking for your help. We are raising money to continue to assist our team members and their families to weather these difficult times. We believe that together we can overcome and hope that with your support we will be back serving all of you soon.
