Dr. John Frachella and Gerry Beauchemin have been pioneers in promoting child-friendly pediatric dentistry, also referred to as Minimally Invasive Dentistry (MID), around the world!

John’s work in using Glass Ionomer Cements (GIC) and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) lead to the concept of Silver Modified ART popularly called SMART. Gerry introduced the innovative concept of Gentle Hand Burs, a game changer when it comes to accessing a carious lesion without conventional drills (air turbine) and needles. https://www.dentalcareforall.org/gentle-hand-burs

Today, Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) and Glass ionomer cement are considered essential medicines and form the foundation of the concept of Medical Management of Caries (MMC). Along with hand burs, this ‘TRIO’ can make dentistry more pleasant and accessible to thousands of children and individuals with disabilities, the world over. The time has come for Minimally Invasive Dentistry to be a part of the tool kit of every healthcare professional who looks after the dental needs of children.

To express our gratitude to John and Gerry for their relentless efforts in spreading the message of gentle dental care, we would like to invite them to the IAPD congress in Maastricht -The Netherlands (June 14-17, 2023). John and Gerry have graciously agreed to show us the GENTLE HANDBURS while we mingle during the breaks and there we can interact with these icons! And maybe, with your support, we can even organize a start-up booth for the Gentle Handburs.

With this goal in mind, this crowdfunding initiative had been launched to cover the expenses of a start-up booth and registration costs of the son-in-law of Gerry, and this presentation of Gentle Hand Burs has been very successful.
