Dear Friends,
In the spirit of sharing and generosity, you are invited to join us in supporting the Spotty Dog Fund for our inspiring friend and teacher, Clementine!!
The dog we know as Clementine: also Goose, Spotty Dog, Long & Spotty, Our Friend with the Nose, Knucklehead, Darling Clementine, etc., etc., etc., has been diagnosed with cancer, a sarcoma on her spleen which was removed in an emergency surgery by Dr. Justin Green (San Juan Veterinary Clinic) on 8/21/16 in Montrose, Colorado. Clementine, and her person lisa, were on their way back to the Front Range from foraging edible mushrooms on the Western slope of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, when Dr. Green felt it was important to do a diagnostic abdominal ultrasound which revealed the sarcoma. Thankfully, Dr. Green offered to perform the surgery on the Sunday of his vacation, as a gift to Clementine. lisa has stated repeatedly how palpable the support of so many friends was during this emergency scenario. Your support has meant more than words can ever say to lisa, Clementine, and SARK kitty.
The emergency surgery, and the week prior "chocolate incident" (dare we ask?), have set lisa's family back a pretty penny. (almost $3k to date) :(
We, the friends of Clementine (+ lisa & SARK) want to generously support their family, as they have generously supported so many of ours, during this time of crisis. Clementine has helped so many dogs learn to relax and trust- she has show-cased playful engagement and consistently modeled de-escalation.
After extensive research, lisa concluded, along with Univ of Penn Vet School, that chemotherapy doesn't offer any significant hope for length of life or quality of life for Clementine. She will pursue evidence-based medicinal mushrooms, and well as researching nutritional and immunological support for dog bodies fighting cancers.
While the official prognosis is poor, and we are saddened by this news, we know the strength of Clementine's contagious playful spirit!!! And we trust that her desire and passion for helping so many, many dogs in growing their confidence, sense of safety, and ability to relax, learn, and play weighs into this grim scenario mightily.
We know that the road designated by the signpost cancer is an uncertain one. We just want to do our small part to alleviate the financial burden this untimely and devastating diagnosis and surgery has inflicted on this single-income family we love so much!
If each person who has expressed love, support, and appreciation for Clementine gives just $10-$20, we can substantially reduce this single-income family's financial burden and cost for the emergency, and expected nutritive and palliative medical expenses. Thanks so much for considering lending your financial support. No donation is too small or too large!
We're all in this together!
