Help Thor and Buddy Live Their Best Lives!

Poor Thor and Buddy both came to the family farm as boarders. ..
Thor is the most well mannered gentleman you could possibly find. So when his "lady" owner simply ghosted this sweet horse I was shocked! After only 1 month of possesing this sweet handsome Papered Morgan Horse the woman who was supposed to love and care for him dissappeared. No visits no calls. No attempt to pay the redonkculously cheap board amount of $200 per month. She paid a single month board and just ghosted. 3 months later this "lady" Thor's owner told me she just couldn't afford him. Sell him or give him away or whatever for the 5 months she owed for board. Now I acknowledge it was my choice not to sell him to pay HER BILL. However I couldn't bring myself to do that to this amazing horse. I was in tears just thinking about sending him to an auction! Do you know what happens to old horses who go to auction? They are almost exclusively sold for meat to dog food companies. They are beaten and bullied into catch pens and are slaughtered. They die terrified and abused. Just no! I refuse!
Buddy's cold uncaring person, and now Thor's heartless, evil owner I feel like I have to keep them to make sure they are being fed, watered, are happy, healthy, and showed some love and affection. They deserve that until the day they die from old age, and clearly humans are not to be trusted to honor that bond and commitment to any animal you claim as yours.
Buddy was a boarder here for a few months while his new owner lady put up a fence around a "pasture" for him. He is the most affectionate horse I've ever met. He literally pulls you in with his head to hug you and get ear scratches. If you don't pull away he'd cuddle with you for hours. I was totally shocked to find out what his "Lady"did to him. I swear some people have no soul!
When his lady was ready, and had the fence installed, she took him to her house about 4 miles from the family farm. Then one day I get a call roughly 2 months after he had left the family farm for his happy new home, i get a call from a old friend I went to high-school with. She knew Buddy, had been staying on my farm, and was a neighbor of Buddy's owner. She told me a tale that pissed me off so much my teeth were humming all on their own.
She noticed that he had no water one day while out for a walk. He was pushing the empty water bin aroud. No biggie. She found the hose and filled his empty tub. It's what a good neighbor does. It stayed on her mind though and she started paying attention. His owners car was not there all day the next day. So like a good neighbor she decided to feed and water him again thinking perhaps something had happened to his lady owner and she couldn't get home to care for him. This amazing neighbor did the chores every afternoon for a solid month. She even purchased grain to feed him when he ran out. She finally called me when she saw the neighbors car was in the driveway. She knocked and casually asked where she had been and if she was okay? The "lady" said she had a new boyfriend and had been staying with him. That didn't sit well and when she told her she had been caring for Buddy for a month and found him without water. That she had fed him every night and even bought grain for him. The "lady responded she didn't need to do that. He'd have been just fine. Now the neighbors pissed off. With good reason! So she asks would she please give her back the $ spent on grain... you can guess what happened next. After hearing all that I made the decision, got a trailer and went to confiscate the horse she didn't deserve to own. He was 150 pounds underweight in a 1 acre pasture he probably ate down to the dirt his first week there. No hay, and a person trying to care for him who had no idea how much to feed him or how many times a day to feed him. It was only by a miracle and a good neighbor he didn't die of dehydration and starvation.
I understand I do keep them by choice, it's true, but I am struggling financially to feed, vet, and keep their feet in good condition. What I'm asking for doesn't even cover the cost of caring for them for a year. I don't expect compensation. I am struggling this year due to a serious injury that cost me my job, and has kept me out of work since just before Christmas 2024. My savings are just about gone and I am frankly ashamed to ask for help. I won't for myself but animals are different. They are innocent and honest. I believe when you get a pet of any kind, it's a lifetime commitment. A obligation of love. So I humbly ask you to donate anything that you can. Please! Even the smallest amount will make a difference! Thank you for taking the time to read their stories! ML&R
