Sponsor the Bob Baxter Dogs

Donation protected
On July 10, 2023 5 hound mixes were dumped on the corner of Bob Baxter Road and Highway 1083 (Ben Williams). My property. Unfortunately, I left town early on the 11th and was none the wiser. Over the next several weeks, neighbors rallied to try to rescue the dogs. One was caught immediately and adopted by a neighbor. We caught the next one August 1 and we kept him. On September 19, Darrell was caught. We caught Ducky on 11/29 and Pips on 12/3. We are raising funds for their care and to sponsor their adoption.

Cost Breakdown:
Update: Ducky's medical bills are currently roughly $600. Full estimate will be uploaded when his blood work comes back.

$350 to sponsor one dog's adoption. This includes vaccines, pro heart, and neuter.
$200 for supplies. This includes dog food for me and the other long time feeder, harnesses, and leashes.

Dogs:

Pips - caught 12/3. Another great doggo. Pips is absolutely a treat. He tippy taps for his breakfast and likes to talk. He is available to an experienced foster home through Northshore Humane Society. He is still learning the fundamentals of living in a human world.

Ducky - caught 11/29. Ducky is the most frightened of the group. He will require special treatment for medical and behavior. He is not currently available for foster or adoption due to his health status.

Darrell - caught 9/19. Darrell is easily the best of the bunch. He is small (under 40lbs) and has a brilliant and gentle mind. He is about 1.5 years old and a hound mix. He is socializing the quickest of all the dogs. He will be happiest in an active home. He loves going on walks. He's still a little nervous, but comes around quickly. He has done well with dogs, cats, and kids.

Baxter - caught 8/1. Megan and John adopted him. It took him 2 weeks to start trusting people. He is 1.5 years old and a hound mix. He has started professional training and has learned sit, stay, down, shake, and here so far. He turned out to be incredibly affectionate and gets along great with our 2 other dogs, house full of cats, as well as horses, chickens, and goats.

Bailey - caught in July. A neighbor has adopted Baily. She reports that she is still very shy but getting along great with the other dogs. Baily has a lot of energy and loves cheese.

Trapping efforts:
  • We have borrowed traps from animal control. Baily and Darrell were caught in a trap. Ducky is absolutely terrified of anything resembling a trap. D2 is currently being trained on the trap.
  • Drugs, we have tried so many. It requires a whole day committed to the observation of the animal to ensure their safety. This is not widely used in animal trapping as it's not very effective.
  • Professional assistance. We had a pro come in. He gave up.
  • I am currently socializing Ducky to a very large custom trap.
  • Dart guns only exist on TV. They cost thousands of dollars, but if you can source one, please let me know.
  • Hog traps: I've been unable to source so am building something that would serve this purpose.

This has provided a strain on resources including money and time. If you have either to share, please let me know.

Thank you!
