Hello my name is Ophelia, I’m 15 and I lived in Tanzania for 5 years, then I moved to England but never forgot the lasting impression of witnessing extreme levels deprivation. Growing up in England has given me access to free education and I don’t take this privilege for granted, through my School I did the ten tors challenge, 35 miles last year and 45 miles this year, that ignited my love for walking on the Moor I wanted to use this to raise money for a small school in Africa that my dad fundraised the money to build, it’s named after my mum and the classrooms are named after me and my sister. I would love to raise enough money to buy equipment for this school and some money to contribute towards a flights out there to volunteer for a month in the summer holidays in 2026 teaching the children English and enriching their learning environment. This walk will take place over two nights and three days I will walk 50 miles completely independently carrying all my own kit and navigating my own way across the moor with a map and compass. It’s going to be a tough challenge as I have never walked by myself before and navigation isn’t my strong suit however I am excited for the journey and hope it will raise enough money to improve the lives of children in Dar es Salam.
