Hi, my name is Johnny and I am a Wolf Cub in the 1st Gateshead Group of the Guides and Scouts of Europe, UK (GSE UK). Together with my Cub Pack, I will be walking the Pilgrims’ Way (3.3 miles) to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne on 4 May 2025, in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary and during the month dedicated to Her.

Ever since King Oswald requested St Aidan to establish a monastery on Lindisfarne Island in 634 AD, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne has been an important centre of Celtic Christianity and a renowned place of pilgrimage. By walking the Pilgrims’ Way to Holy Island, we will be walking in the footsteps of St Oswald, St Aidan, St Cuthbert, and innumerable other saints, monks, and pilgrims over the past nearly 1,400 years. The Pilgrims’ Way is a tidal crossing marked by vertical poles stretching across the sand from the mainland to Holy Island.

The Guides and Scouts of Europe is a Catholic Scouting movement founded in 1956 and is a Lay Association of the Faithful recognised by the Holy See with 73,000 members in a total of 27 countries.
