I’ve been living in New York for over 10 years and I’ve never been paralysed at the sight of a creature in need the way this cat struck me. I named him Gatto Felice which is Italian for Happy Cat, hoping that it will turn into a self fulfilling prophecy. Felice has known very little human kindness in his years on the streets of Brooklyn: aside from being malnourished, he developed a series of severely infectious skin conditions that cover his entire face, plaguing him with ulcers inside his ears and almost entirely sealing his eyes shut. Fortunately he tested negative for leukaemia and FIV, however it is still unclear whether his illness is related to mites/mange or if it’s a more serious autoimmune disease. Any miracle is only as strong as the people who believe in it, and helping the helpless is a gesture of solidarity and greatness of soul that always comes around.
