We find children in our community in Kenya who are unable to attend school regularly or at all due to the inability of their parents or guardians to pay for school fees and school uniforms. School in Kenya is technically supposed to be free, however is not as you see in the breakdown below. Although they may seem nominal, for many families the school fees, uniforms and lunch for one child are more than a month's salary, if you have regular employment.

School lunch fees are included in sponsorship because children who cannot bring or pay for food sit to the side and watch the other children eat. Most of the kids likely will not have had any breakfast prior to school as well. It is impossible for a child to perform at school while going hungry.

The following is a breakdown of the cost to sponsor a primary and junior secondary school child annually. Senior Secondary School students' cost fluctuates depending on the school and will be provided directly to sponsors.

Primary school is up to grade 6.

Jr. Sec is grades 7, 8 and 9.

Sr. Secondary School is Forms 1, 2 and 3.

All sponsorship is a minimum of a two-year commitment, however please pay annually. We will reach out prior to the start of the new school year. The school year in Kenya runs from January - November.

If you are sponsoring a Primary School Student, the total cost is 20 000 KES (approximately $155). This includes school fees, lunch, and uniforms.

If you are sponsoring a Jr Secondary School Student, the total cost is 26 000 KES (approximately $200). This includes school fees, lunch, and uniforms.

Each student will receive the following uniform items for the school year:

Jr Secondary school fees: 7,500 KES

School lunch per term: 1,680 KES
