Friends, Family & Animal Champions Around the World,
We're reaching out to ask for your individual help
to collectively save the lives of animals in Croatia.
During our stay in Split, Croatia in 2012 we made two surprise friends in the form of a kitten (Shadow) and a puppy (Kiki). We found Shadow our first week in town, meowing pitifully in front of our apartment building, extremely sick and malnourished. Kiki came into our lives on our very last night in the country, wandering scared on the side of a busy coastal highway in the middle of the night, also malnourished. We knew that both of these little guys needed help or they wouldn't survive.THEY NEED YOU! DONATE TODAY!
After finding Shadow and making the decision to locate care, we were surprised to discover that there was no animal shelter in Split. We were lucky to be directed towards a local vet, Dr. Filipovic, known for her willingness to care for stray animals and find them homes after regaining their health. She, along with a fellow vet, Jelena, welcomed Shadow into their clinic, evaluated, diagnosed, administered medication and fluids, nursed him back to a healthy mischievous kitten and found him a home with a loving woman. When we brought Kiki to their door, the same compassion and care was given.
During the month that we spent visiting Shadow, we also had the pleasure of getting to know Dr. Filipovic, her three children and Jelena. We discovered that in addition to their efforts at the vet clinic, Dr. Filipovic also established the Animal Protective Foundation (Zaklada Za Zastitu Zivotinja) with the specific purpose of building a no kill animal shelter
to serve the city of Split and surrounding communities. Dr. Filipovic, along with the Foundation's Board, secured land and the permits to build a permanent home for the animals in need that they are so passionate about serving. SUPPORT THE NO KILL ANIMAL SHELTER
Dr. Filipovic personally donated the initial funding for the shelter, demonstrating her commitment to the project and belief in the need. The Board and friends of the Foundation then lead fundraising efforts in the local community and online.
All of the hard work resulted in the shelter opening its doors in 2014, welcoming 40 animals from the streets to a safe, clean and warm space!
Over the past three years the Foundation has successfully found homes for more than 400 animals
and continues to lovingly care for those at the shelter.
The ongoing operations are very costly and the need endless. While Dr. Filipovic and her team have applied for government funding every year, it has yet to be awarded. They and the animals in their care depend on compassionate people like you! We continue to help...won't you please join us? Please make a donation today through this webpage to support the no kill animal shelter in Split, Croatia.
There are thousands of animals just like Shadow and Kiki roaming the neighborhoods who need a safe haven where they are cared for and kept healthy while waiting for a loving forever family.
We will continue to keep you updated through this page on shelter success stories, needs and the wonderful animals saved because of your generosity.
Thank you, on behalf of Dr. Filipovic and her team, and especially from the two of us. We are so appreciative.
