'I dedicate this film to every survivor of domestic abuse and workers in women’s shelters around the world. I am proud to have come out of it on the other side and to have the opportunity to tell this story. '
- Lea Stern (Writer / Director & Co-Producer)
“Nora's world is turned upside down when one day, after her mother picks her up from football practice, she doesn't drive her home but to a women's shelter. Left without an explanation, Nora struggles to understand why their lives have changed so suddenly and why she is no longer allowed to see her father. This film shows how a child goes from not understanding her mother’s actions to realizing what she was protecting them from.”
DIRECTOR MESSAGE
My name is Lea Stern and I am the writer & director of Splinters. I used my own experience to inspire this story, wanting to show how a child lives through the chaos when a family breaks apart, under circumstances that are too painful to openly talk about.
CO-PRODUCER MESSAGE
My name is Ciara Schaefer and producing Splinters is my way of honouring the stories of those trying to escape domestic abuse, to stand with survivors, to recognise the quiet strength of women rebuilding their lives and to help bring visibility to an experience too often hidden in the shadows.
CREW MESSAGE
We are a team of passionate and dedicated filmmakers in our final year at The National Film School at IADT. We launched this crowdfunding campaign to help fund our graduation film, which is an entirely self-funded project.
