First off, thank you for taking the time to read my story :)

When I was a little girl, I always dreamed of becoming a model. I remember spending hours watching beauty pageants on TV, YouTube and Facebook. At the age of 16, I started “modeling” with one of my good friends Elie Akadia. As young high schoolers, it was merely for pure entertainment and fun. My very first “photo shoot” was with my childhood friend Christelle Kouakou. I remember having so much fun with it; we really thought we were Naomi and Tyra circa 1997. Modeling gave me the opportunity to step out of the reality and serves as an outlet to becoming whatever and whomever I envision. Nothing makes me happier than posing in front of that camera. I am a huge supporter of the arts and modeling is my form of contribution.

When my father passed away, a year ago, I learned many many...many, I reiterate, many new lessons about life. One important one was, to live your best life because you are only given one, and you don’t know for how long. I never want to risk not being the best I want to, and can be, which is why I have decided to do anything and everything that makes me happy.

I have been blessed with the opportunity of being one of the six finalists in the 2018 Miss Cote d'Ivoire USA pageant--a non-profit organization ran by 4 young Ivorian women, just like me. It aims to celebrate ALL women through beauty, talent, skill and personal attributions. As female ambassadors, the elected Miss will represent the Cote d'Ivoire through her activism, intelligence, cultural pride and beauty, right here in the United States. This organization not only raises women of power but invests in the future of young Ivorians,

The goal of this pageant is to “display the richness and cultural ethnic values of the Ivorian community. They work closely with other non-profit organizations/companies that have exhibited continuous dedication to women empowerment and enhancing the education sector of young women (see below for citing).” This organization allows for young women of Ivorian descent to explore not only the Ivorian culture, but to develop themselves.

I am very excited because I remember joking around with friends about entering, as I did not feel too confident in myself, back then. Now at 21 years old, I can finally say that I have never been more comfortable, content and happy with myself and my life. I am grateful to have gotten to this point because it was a rough journey. I believe that all women deserve to feel comfortable and beautiful in their skin. Reaching that level is one of the most rewarding feelings.

Why I chose to compete:
I have always wanted to grow closer to my Ivorian Culture. I want to honor my late father, Monsieur KOUADIO MATHIAS, in this pageant. I owe it all to him as he is the reason why I am able to call this beautiful culture, my own. As Miss Cote d'Ivoire USA, I hope to empower girls and women all over the world. As an advocate, I'd like to help them realize their self-worth and take steps to reaching their purpose in this life. With the passing of my father, I stumbled upon various adversities. However, with the love, support, help and guidance from my friends and family, I was able to make a BIG comeback. My biggest dream is to do the same for at least one person in the world :)
