Hi, I’m Dave.
On June 15th, I’m taking on the Spine Race, a 268-mile ultramarathon along the full length of the Pennine Way. Often described as one of the toughest races in the UK, it’s a relentless, non-stop journey through some of the wildest and most unforgiving terrain in the country. Without question, it will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
It’s always been a dream of mine to stand on that start line — but recently, a far more important reason emerged for why I should do it.
I’m running in memory of Nicola — my children’s former childminder — who recently passed away from terminal cancer. Nicola was so much more than a childminder. She was like family. She treated every child in her care as her own and was a deeply loved and respected part of our local community.
In her final days, Nicola was cared for with compassion and dignity by the incredible team at Manorlands Hospice.
Manorlands has supported not only Nicola, but many others in our village and the local area over the years. I’ve raised money for them in the past because I know just how vital their work is. This time, I’m also hoping to support Nicola’s 19-year-old daughter, who now faces life without her mum — and the overwhelming challenge of supporting herself.
By donating, you're not only helping Manorlands continue their essential care for others, but also offering a bit of hope and stability to a young woman during a time of unimaginable loss.
Every step I take in this race is for Nicola, her daughter, and everyone who depends on places like Manorlands.
Your support truly means the world.
