Spinal Tumor Removal for Inthixai
Donation protected
Inthixai Kittanouvong is great young man with a bright future, but he is fighting for his life and needs your help!
A Difficult Tragedy Out of Nowhere in the Prime of Youth
Inthixai previously lived and studied in the United States, but shortly after his return to Laos at age 15, he was diagnosed with multiple slow growing tumors (Hemangioblastomas) along his spine. Over the past 3 years, Inthixai's condition has deteriorated to the point he can no longer walk and he is now wheel chair bound. His left arm is very weakened and within the past 5 months he lost his eyesight.
Inthixai's father works in the Lao government and for many years has directly supported the United States' POW/MIA accounting mission in Laos-- facilitating the return of unaccounted-for American servicemen lost in Laos. Inthixai's father is well known and appreciated by the United States Embassy in Vientiane and by the men and women of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA).
Shattered Hope
In 2016, Inthixai received an abortive surgery from a prominent hospital in Thailand, where Doctors performed a T2-3 laminectomy with partial tumor removal and T6-7 laminectomy for decompression; however, Doctors were unable to completely remove the tumor from his spine, due to the very aggressive form of Hemangioblastomatosis and risk of permanent paralysis if surgery continued further. The surgeons advised only specialized surgery performed by a Doctor in the United States would be the best chance to remove the spinal tumor from Inthixai without causing permanent paralysis.
Way Ahead
Since then, we have contacted several Hospitals to include: Johns Hopkins, George Washington University, and Saint Jude--all of whom replied they would accept Inthixai as a patient, but need to see him in person for the consult and tests before surgery can be scheduled.
The purpose of this campaign is to raise enough funds to support Inthixai's travel to the United States either by the end of 2018 or beginning of 2019 as well as payment for the initial consult and surgery.
The cost of surgery such as this is significant (~$80,000 to $100,000 or more), however, Inthixai does not have medical insurance that would cover this, so we are open to any ideas, or help to raise money to support such a surgery, especially given the timeline.
We plead for your help
Inthixai is a great young man and a pillar among the youth here in Laos! He has a very bright future ahead of him and we do not want to see his future eclipsed due to this tragic spinal tumor.
A charitable donation in any amount will help and would be very gratefully appreciated by Inthixai and his family. We welcome your faith and prayers as well! Thank you.
