My name is Amy and on November 14th I went to the hospital because I lost all feeling and movement from my stomach down. I was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with a spinal stroke and GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome). On November 22nd the hospital put me into the ICU (Critical Care Unit) because the numbness spread to my chest and they couldn't keep my heart rate stable. The hospital then put a dialysis catheter in my neck, and I already had two iv's in my arm. On December 1st, I couldn't pee on my own, so they ended up putting a Urinary Catheter in my urethra (the hole that you pee out of). On the night of December 1st, they moved me to a regular room and started Plasma Exchange/Plasmapheresis treatments on me (they take out your blood and your plasma, and replace your plasma with plasma that was donated by plasma donors, and then return your blood to your body). I have to get several treatments, and then when the time comes for me to be released from the hospital, I will have to go to rehab. My husband is unable to work right now because he goes between being with me at the hospital, and taking care of our kids. It is December 2nd and I am still in the hospital and I have been here for 18 days and 19 nights, and we will be in the hospital for quite a while, and then I go to rehab. We are now behind on bills, my insurance is denying coverage for some of the services at the hospital, my husband needs funds to get back and forth from Conroe (where we live), and the Woodlands (where the hospital is), my husband needs funds for food when he is at the hospital with me, and since we are behind on bills etc, we are also having a hard time buying Christmas gifts for our children ages 4, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, and two 22 year olds.
