Spinal & femur surgery and medical support for Kanya David

On 29th August, a friend, father and a good soul, David Kanya had a terrible accident. While working at my home, a hard metal gate collapsed and fell on him, leaving him with severe spinal fractures and femur double fracture on his right leg.
David has since been admitted to the spinal ward at Mulago Referral Hospital with a paralyzed lower body and in much pain, waiting for both spinal and leg surgeries.
Mulago Referral Hospital is a public hospital in Kampala, Uganda, which thankfully does the surgery at no cost. However, there are still significant costs involved like the implants meant to fix his spine and the long Proximal Femoral Nail (PFN) meant to fix the leg. In addition, there are many other bills for medical equipment, medication, and overall support for his recovery.
Uganda has no public health insurance, and David and family can’t afford a private insurance. Hereford, all the expenses for the essentials for surgery and recovery are not covered.
Currently David is lying on a hospital bed in so much pain and is in need of care 24/7 as his lower part of the body is paralyzed. The surgery is essential to relieving the pain and gives us hope of possible recovery.
While his family is with David 24/7 and he receives all the attention and love they can provide, the situation is pressing for them too. David is the breadwinner of the family, providing for his family’s meals, school fees and all other necessities.
This fundraiser will support David and his family for a second chance to life. The donations will help cover:
- Medical equipment for the surgery, including a long Proximal Femoral Nail, 8 Pedicle Screws and 2 Rods for the Spine - totaling to 10.5 million Uganda Shillings.
- Other medical supplies that are needed during and after the surgery.
- Medication
- Orthopaedic Splint
- Wheelchair
- Physiotherapy
- Living expenses during recovery and costs of living for his wife and two beautiful children to be able to continue with their education
The exact amount needed is difficult to determine, but we ensure that all donations raised will directly benefit David's treatment, recovery, his well-being, and that of his family.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donations. Be blessed.
