TLDR → check out the below pilot episode and if you enjoy it, please consider helping contribute to organizations that focus on restoring function to and improving the lives of people living with Spinal Cord Injuries, plus helping us produce more episodes spotlighting folks from the disability community (who are far more impressive than Thomas).
Also, a huge thank you from the two of us (Jason aka Jabba, and Thomas aka T-Intersection) for taking a minute to read about our new project – ActivatAbility.org.
PLEASE NOTE: We are working toward incorporating as a non-profit but are not there yet. Getting the pilot episode out was step one in this (ideally) long and impactful journey.
“What is ActivatAbility and why do you two dopes want to produce a full web series?”
Firstly, great question. You demonstrate a keen intellect. Especially on the dopes part.
Secondly, the idea for this project was born from the observation that around the world there are badass people living with disabilities doing badass things and providing a look into their lives + experiences can create a better understanding that people are simply people. Some just happen to live with disability.
Our goals are to:
- Expand the understanding of what is possible for those living with disability
- Educate the broader population and hopefully improve humanity – even if only in the slightest.
The initial shot at the above was to film Thomas attempting a marathon in his wheelchair, as seen in this pilot episode.
If you like what you see, please consider contributing so we can provide a look into other amazing peoples’ lives and the adaptive activities/challenges they take on.
We will also be donating a portion of the funds to the following Spinal Cord Injury Restorative Research and Support organizations:
- Unite 2 Fight Paralysis
- Get Up Stand Up to Cure Paralysis
- Challenged Athletes Foundation
- Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation
- High Fives Foundation
- NorCal Spinal Cord Injury Foundation
