Spinal cord injuries suck!
Donation protected
On August 24, 2023, George had an off- road vehicle accident, resulting in the vertebrae in his neck compressing his spinal cord. From the scene to his current status at a specialized neuro- rehab center in Denver, he's had 3-4 ambulance, 1 helicopter, and 1 airplane transport. He's had neuro surgery to correct the acquired deformity of his spine and now is working with physical and occupational therapy to learn to live with his new body (and hopefully gain some more function/ mobility). He is 100% power wheelchair dependent to get out and about. His left leg and arm are much stronger than his right side; but even that is limited. He has little to no grip/ grasp strength in either hand.
Before George can return home, modifications need to be made to their home. Most urgent will be wheelchair accessible ramps, doors widened, and carpeting removed to put in wood/ laminate/ tile flooring. Bathroom/ shower will need to be made wheelchair accessible. There's a lot!
Carrie and their kids have rallied, but they are overwhelmed and exhausted (and frankly, still in shock over such a sudden and dramatic change to all of their lives). George and Carrie have worked very hard for the life they created and never imagined being "here"! This wasn't part of their plan!
I am asking that all who have been touched by George or Carrie and their children, coworkers, neighbors, friends, family, others affected by spinal cord injuries, or just kind strangers help them out! The cost of his medical bills, changes to his home needed before he can even go home, as well as lost wages is going to be astronomical! If, through generous donations, George and Carrie are able to make the world around them accessible to their new normal, excess funds will be donated to Craig Neuro Rehabilitation Foundation in Englewood, CO.
George is larger than life! (6 ft and 300 lbs) He is a proud man who has always worked hard to provide for his family! And he is crushed to be in such a vulnerable position! Help me (his baby sister) help him! ❤️
And thank you beyond the moon and stars for all of the kind words/thoughts/prayers/vibes said for George and his family. Thank you to all who have sent thoughtful gifts and generous time to support them all. And most importantly, right now, thank you for any financial contribution you can offer! There aren't words big enough to express the gratitude they feel!
