Spina Bifidia treatment for Kai
Donation protected
Little Kai was turned over to a high kill shelter at 6 weeks old. He is the product of a breeder who used a father and daughter "to strengthen the blood line". He has to wear diapers as he is mostly paralyzed from the waist down and has no control over his bowel muscles or bladder. He cannot walk on his back paws but instead walks on his haunches which causes sores. He has severe Spina Bifida according to UC Davis. There is no cure and this problem even affects people.
On the plus side, UC Davis is leading the way in finding treatment for spina bifidia and is seeking approval to use Kai in a clinical trial. We were told that this procedure has been successful on a sheep and that they would like to grow stem cells to cover up the portion of his spinal column that did not grow right when he was developing as a fetus. However, they want to do it quickly while his bones are still soft and it will require 2 more 15 hour round trips to UC Davis to do it. And it is not cheap! It will cost us about $5000.00. The testing alone has cost us about $2000.00 We cannot raise this kind of money in one month's time without your support. Please help. If we cannot raise enough money, we will offer refunds to everyone who donated for this. Thank you.
