THE FILMMAKER:
My name is Amor Azor, I'm an NYU Film student in my senior year of college. I've recently turned 21 and have experienced a new level of freedom in New York City-and some of the consequences that come along with it. As someone who's witnessed and experienced the misfortunes of roofing, this story speaks to me especially because it makes me wonder- "why then", and "why them?" These are the questions I will try to answer in SPIKE, which explores an absurd situation that unfolds as a result of dating in NYC . My goal with this film is to portray the masks that every character wears, and the breaking point each one of them reaches. As my first narrative film, my goal is to push the limits of storytelling and direct something completely original for my thesis.
THE FILM:
NOBODY LIKES WORKING A LATE SHIFT, especially not Jen, a recent New York City transplant who is sorting out the complications of dating in a big city. Should she text him back? Should she send a picture? Her decision is made easy when her sleazy situationship, Harry, waltzes through the door with a different girl on his arm- and she’s pretty. As Amelia, a part time model and full time bombshell, tries to sus out the vibes between the rude waitress and her date, she grows more and more confused. Harry swears he doesn’t know the waitress, but offers to tip her extra? Then admits he does know her but, she’s just a crazy ex from college... Except Jen says she didn’t go to school in New York? Spun up in the lies, Amelia doesn’t notice when the room also starts spinning, and she passes out on the table. Manager Georgio returns demanding answers. Fingers are pointed. Drinks are Spiked.
