Spike Sarcoma
I was diagnosed in July 2018, at age 14, with a rare form of soft tissue cancer called myxoid liposarcoma. I had an initial surgery at Carilion Hospital in Roanoke and a follow up surgery at Johns Hopkins children's hospital in Baltimore to remove a malignant tumor from my left leg. Soft tissue sarcomas affect connective tissue such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and the lining of blood vessels. I receive frequent scans including detailed MRI's of my leg, full body scans and CT's of my chest, abdomen and pelvis.
As of July 2019 I am one year cancer free! I am hosting a volleyball tournament November 23, 2019 to give back to the amazing medical community that has helped me remain cancer free throughout the past year and raise awareness in my community about pediatric soft tissue sarcomas. I will donate the money raised from this event to Carilion Pediatric Oncology and Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology.
