Spencer’s Life Changing Surgery

Hi, my name is Spencer and I am raising funds to help me with the travel expenses and hotel stay for my top surgery which is scheduled for October 21st for the end of this year.

Many plastic surgeons will perform a double mastectomy, but many of them don’t specialize on performing the surgery on trans men, and I wanted to make sure I went to a surgeon that has this specialty because it’s a different result in comparison to when a woman has to undergo a double mastectomy. Insurance companies do not cover any cost when it comes to revision so I need to get this done correct the first time. It will have taken more than 3 years from when I scheduled my consultation to my surgery date in order for me to go to one of the best doctors for this procedure and her name is Dr. Rachel Bluebond-Langner and she is out of NYU Langone Hospital.

The surgery costs $20,000 and my insurance covers 70%. Between two separate FSA accounts I will be able to cover the 30% left which is $6,000. I am asking for help in raising the funds to cover my hotel stay and the actual travel expenses to and from NY.

My surgeon requires me to stay nearby for 2 weeks post-op in case there are any complications, and staying in NYC isn’t cheap. If I manage to raise additional funds I will be using them to help with offsetting my reduction in pay from Lowe’s for the 6 weeks I will need to be out on leave during my recovery for this major surgery. Lowe’s pays 60% of my pay for short term disability.
