Spencer’s fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma

21 year old Spencer Blanchard of Barrie Ontario is a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew and a boyfriend. He is a great young man with the biggest heart, but unfortunately what’s larger than his heart is his Ewing’s Sarcoma (bone/soft tissue cancer). On Dec 22, 2019 Spencer  had to hear the terrible news of a diagnosis of cancer. Spencer had gone to the hospital with increasing pain to his right shoulder/neck/arm. He had been experiencing pain since last summer in the same area with what was thought to be a pinched nerve. Spencer had gone for imagining and initially it was thought to be possible lung cancer. With further imaging, a biopsy and testing; a Ewing’s Sarcoma was confirmed which was affecting his right posterior chest wall (ribs) and a treatment plan is to be initiated January 6, 2020. Spencer is now in for the fight of his life where he will be receiving chemotherapy (starting January 6,2020) for approx 6 treatments on a 21 day cycle where he will be hospitalized for 5 days at a time. Following chemo he will proceed with radiation and then surgery to remove remaining cancer/mass in the affected ribs/area. Due to the size of the mass the extent of surgery is unknown presently. Once surgery is completed, additional chemotherapy will be done in hopes of ensuring Spencer will be cancer free. 

Spencer will be traveling to Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto for multiple appointments
and treatment every week. The excruciating pain along with now treatment has left Spencer unable to work at this time. 

During this difficult time he and his family have been dealing with additional medical appointments for another immediate Family member which is resulting in long days and additional financial  strain on all of them. 

Although this diagnosis has been incredibly difficult on Spencer and his family, he keeps a very positive outlook and we are all sure he is going to kick thiscancer’s ass. This is going to be a very long treatment and recovery but Spencer is young and strong and going to give it everything he has.
