Spencer Whelan Family

Donation protected
Those of us who knew and loved Spencer Whelan are all in shock, fighting back tears and dealing with heavy hearts as we say goodbye to our dear friend. As much as we, as friends of Spencer, are grieving right now, keep in mind he leaves behind a son, Turner, who misses his father dearly.

While we cannot replace his father, we can make a gift to Turner in his father’s memory to help provide for his future educational needs. We are in the process of setting up a trust or similar account to hold this gift and help it grow.

Everyone who knew Spencer knew what a kind and generous heart he had, so much that he donated his own heart so that someone else could live. In remembrance of the spirit of kindness and generosity Spencer embodied, please donate what you can to help bring a positive out of a truly devastating and painful situation.

This is what Spencer would've wanted. He loved Turner with all his heart, and this is a way to help Spence and Turner at a time when we all want to do something, but aren't sure how. All donations, no matter how large or small, are greatly appreciated.

Michael Spencer Whelan, 33, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.

Spence was a graduate from Chattanooga State Community College and attended UTC to study environmental law. Spence loved his family and was a devoted father, friend, son, brother and nephew. Spence loved life and was constantly finding new ways to experience it with his son and his friends. Spencer loved life so much that he wanted to allow others the opportunity to live through his death, by donating his organs.

A celebration of Spencer’s life will be held Saturday, December 17 at 1 p.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux, in Cleveland, TN.

Family will be receiving friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Companion Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
