Please help our dear friends Spencer and Ellis Brown!

Last Thursday evening, Spencer celebrated receiving his graduate degree with a swimming party. With family & friends there, he dove into a swimming pool and hit his head on the bottom of the pool leaving him immediately without feeling and the ability to move his body. Those who were there quickly realized that something was terribly wrong and were able to aide Spencer to the surface and call 911 for help. As they rushed Spencer to the hospital, it was confirmed that Spencer broke his neck and his spinal cord was injured -- leaving his body paralyzed (hopefully temporarily) from his neck down. Luckily, there was no damage to his brain and Spencer’s positive and upbeat personality has shone through in little glimpses during this unthinkable tragedy.

His newly-pregnant wife, Ellis, is also a shining example of faith, hope and confidence, although the road ahead is long and uncertain. Spencer is currently in the Trauma ICU and will remain there or in a care facility for what may be weeks or months. He is working hard and making daily progress in the right direction. Each day is a roller coaster but he is now able to move his arms and feet ever-so-slightly which feels like a miracle and such a huge blessing! Thank you for your prayers and PLEASE keep praying!!!

While Spencer, Ellis and their 2 young daughters (3 and 1) currently reside in Charleston SC and are far from where they live, in a sense they are “home” and surrounded by many family members and friends. They have an incredible emotional support system, but Spencer will be away from the job that he loves (and is so good at) for a very long time. From this point on in their lives, they will have expensive medical bills, the cost of different rehabilitations and physical therapy, and many unforeseen expenditures. Anyone who knows Spencer and Ellis know that they are STRONG and that they are both FIGHTERS and that they will get through this. But no one is immune to the stress that comes with mounting financial burdens and so we are asking those who can to join us in giving to the Brown family to help alleviate their growing expenses.

Spencer is young and healthy and his goal is to return to a lifestyle of independence, adventure and playfulness with his daughters and wife. He is fun, hard working, kind hearted and compassionate.
