My passion for the last 6 years has been making drinks with sustainable and regional food sources. I make with ingredients that have been enjoyed by the people of New Mexico for generations and generations. Spellbound Syrups, my beverage company creates drinks with the intention to bring us back to our familial memories and to teach us that consumption must be done thoughtfully, with reciprocation in action. This is my dream to continue to make beverage sustainably and to bring people joy. I started Spellbound Syrups in 2015 by surprise. I had been making shrubs at home and was asked to develop and curate a shrub and tea menu for a new coffee shop in the Sawmill district I was working for, as a barista. The beverage become really popular amongst regulars at the coffee shop so I realized I had an opportunity I needed to make the best of and applied for my LLC to start my own company. I had no idea what I was jumping into.
Spellbound has always existed in various capacities depending on how much I had to work at my other job(s). This pandemic has taught me the importance of simplicity and sustainability. With the time at home, I've been able to streamline my process and product and now I have the confidence to commit to my dream wholeheartedly. I want to take Spellbound Syrups to the next level. My goal is to work out of the SVEDC commercial kitchen, send samples of my product to NMSU food safety lab so that I can apply for retail permitting through Bernalillo County. I want to design beautiful labels with local artists for an intentionally packaged product to be sold at regional food markets and eventually grocery stores. I will train and hire my first employee in order to produce 4 seasonal packaged products throughout the year. I want to be able to do this by committing all of my energy and time to Spellbound Syrups and I think its possible to accomplish most of this within a 6 month timeline with your support.
Once Spellbound Syrups is my sole reliable stream of income, I would like to teach workshops and lectures on how to make shrubs and how to identify edibles, sustainably to make probiotic beverage with. With these workshops, I plan to give back financially to environmental and land based educational programs and efforts that teach us how to live proactively in community, during drought and climate crisis. With your support, I will be able to continue creating and curating beverage here in New Mexico with the purpose of eliciting healing and abundance. I will be able to give back to my community in a responsible way. I'll be able to create jobs that pay a livable wage to fellow New Mexicans. I will be able to engage with my community and offer education for creating within Earth’s living capacity. By donating to my dream, I will be able to accomplish these goals with more sanity and ease if I do not have to look for another full time job. I will not have to split my time and energy between the two which I believe has greatly contributed to my previous set backs. You are also giving me the opportunity to not have to acquire more debt by taking out a loan, as I have student loan debt from completing my bachelor's degree.
