Specialist Care for a very Special Cat
Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Alice and this is Noke (Princess Mononoke). She is a domestic shorthair that myself and Lauren from Paws Cat Cafe rescused along with her brother and sister Hiccup and Toothless over six years ago. They were born in a community shed, and as kitten where being shot at with BB guns by local children. We recused them, Noke came home with me. Hiccup and Toothless went to live with Lauren at Paws Cat Cafe.
Please see below for some of our favourite pictures of Noke:
On Wednesday myself and my partner noticed Noke wasn't very steady on her feet, and she all of a sudden seemed smaller (than normal), and would not move from a warm spot in the bathroom floor. We monitored her and as soon as she had gone more than a day without eating we contacted our Vets, took her straight in where they ran blood work. She had lost 1.5kg in less than a month leaving her at 3kg total. We were sent home to wait for the results. We got a call to bring her straight back in after an hour as she was showing signs of an acute kidney injury and needed to be put on fluids immediately.
That was Friday the 4th of October since then she has been moved to the incredible Out of Hours team at Pennard Vets, who are doing everything they possibly can to help. The information we have so far is that her kidney function was extremely poor, one kidney structurally is abnormal and the other enlarged/ inflammed where it is trying to pick up more work, she is dangerously anaemic. On Saturday her results had improved slightly, but the Vets wanted to see more of an improvement which unfortunately after another 24 hours has not happened.
We were given the option to bring her home and wait for her to deteriorate again as she would, and then unfortunately have to make a difficult decision. Or complete more complex bloodwork and have her seen by a specialist, for further imaging. There is hope. And she is being incredibly brave, so we have to be too.
Noke is insured up to a point, and unfortunately her cover no longer covers her care in this incredibly rare scenario. Which at only Six years old, nobody would have expected. Myself and my partner are set to get married in 3 weeks and despite trying to cancel everything possible to save her, there is no opportunity for refunds. Our savings are exhausted. So here we are, begging for help. Noke may just be a cat, but she is very very special. She has survived so much, she has helped so many, she is our baby. And there is a chance that is this a hereditary or congenital disease. Which means Hiccup and Toothless may be at risk too. Completing these tests will secure their futures too.
So please anything helps, anything donated will go towards her care entirely. And in the meantime she has Felix the Fox and she is continuing to fight and apparently capture the hearts of the staff at Pennard Vets.
Thank you so much for reading,
Alice and Guy
Edit: Edited the amounted to remove what insurance does cover, apologies it's quite an emotional time.
