We are incredibly proud to be supporting four amazing Special Olympics athletes – Deirdre, Sharon, Thomas and Joe – as they prepare to compete at the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games, taking place from 19th–21st June.
The athletes are dedicated members of Freespirit Kayaking Club, a club that has been empowering paddlers with intellectual disabilities since 2002. Freespirit paddles out of Salmon Leap Canoe Club and has long been a place where confidence, independence, teamwork and friendship are built through sport and community.
Qualifying for the Summer Games is a huge achievement. For Deirdre, Sharon, Thomas and Joe, it represents months (and years) of training, commitment and personal growth. They will be accompanied by two volunteer chaperones, whose support is essential to ensure the athletes can safely and fully enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
To make attendance possible, Freespirit must raise €525 per athlete and chaperone, which covers accommodation, meals, transport, event costs and essential supports during the Games. In total, this is a significant fundraising challenge for a small, volunteer-led club.
By donating, you are not just helping to cover costs — you are:
• Supporting inclusion and equality in sport
• Helping athletes represent their club and community on a national stage
• Enabling unforgettable experiences that build confidence, pride and lifelong
memories.
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page is just as valuable.
Thank you for supporting Freespirit Kayaking Club and helping our athletes paddle their way to the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games 2026
