Hi, Vinny is a 5 year old little boy, he will be walking 5 miles every weekend in March to raise funds to create a SEN space at his school. He has been diagnosed with ASD, PDA and is under assessment for ADHD. He is an amazing character, loves life, fearless and adventurous. But living on the spectrum has its challenges. And ‘normal’ life isn’t for Vinny. He is meant to live an extraordinary life. School life is hard. Vinny isn’t naughty, he is challenging though, through no fault of his own, his brain is just different. Yet our school system isn’t set up to ensure children like Vinny can succeed. Parents have to fight for everything and schools have little control because the government and local authorities processes and systems are broken beyond belief.
Vinny attends little Sutton (we chose little Sutton because it was a lovely small school for our eldest who has learning difficulties) Little Sutton has been brilliant with our eldest son and daughter.
they have been challenged with Vinnys behaviour because they are not set up for Vinnys additional needs, although they have gone above and beyond. Yes of course I have been a challenging parent, but they have been great in providing Vinny a safe space to the best of their ability.
Our Local Authority, have been less than supportive, lack of funding and information means Vinny may have to move schools, however I would like to try and raise fund to support Little Sutton in building an even better SEN room at the school. Currently they have converted a space in the school and Vinny loves it.
Parent of SEN children constantly have to battle and fight for basic rights for their children, all because they have different abilities and our school system isn’t up to date with the evolving needs of modern children.
If you can donate 50p that would be amazing. I know there are so many challenges families face personal to them, so we appreciate anything that can be donated or even for you to share this with friends and families in case they would like to donate.
