My name is Khristina, and I’ve devoted my career to working as a Special Education Aide, supporting students with special needs. My passion has always been helping others — especially those who need a little extra patience, care, and understanding.
Recently, my life was turned upside down by a serious accident at work.
While working one-on-one with my student, he suddenly lost balance and began to fall. My instinct, as always, was to protect him. I reached out to catch him so he wouldn’t be hurt, but in doing so, I was knocked off balance myself. Since my hands were helping him, I couldn’t break my fall — and my head struck the concrete floor.
The impact was severe. I remember hearing the cracks in my head and upper body as I hit the floor. The right side of my head bounced off the concrete twice. Emergency services were called immediately, and I was taken to Henry Ford Hospital.
Doctors diagnosed me with a concussion and cervical sprain, and they now suspect possible spinal cord injury, nerve damage, and related complications. I’m awaiting the MRI tests to be scheduled by the doctor’s office to determine the full extent of the damage.
Because of the severity of my injuries, I’m unable to work and will need significant time to recover. I’ve dedicated my life to helping others — and now, I find myself in the humbling position of needing help myself.
When I accepted my role as a paraprofessional/aide, I chose it out of love — not for the pay or benefits. In fact, the position offers no benefits and pays a little over $15 an hour. I accepted it because I believe in my students, my team, and my school. But now, with medical appointments, recovery time, and limited workers’ compensation that only covers a small portion of my income, I’m struggling to make ends meet. The accident occurred on September 29, 2025 and worker’s compensation has not paid lost wages yet.
I’m raising $6,000 to help cover essential expenses during this recovery period, including:
• Rent and utilities
• Groceries and daily living costs
• Medical and recovery-related expenses not covered by workers’ compensation
Every dollar will make a real difference for me and my children as I focus on healing and regaining my strength.
It’s not easy for me to ask for help — but from the bottom of my heart, I’m so grateful for any support you can give. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply a kind word of encouragement, your help means the world to my children and me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for standing by me during this difficult time. With your support, I’m holding onto hope for a full recovery and a return to the work — and students — I love so deeply.
