Special appeal for RPD Gunner!

RPD Gunner retired from Cleveland Police Dog Section aged 9yrs old on 16th January 2020 after serving loyally and bravely for 7yrs. As well as being a much-loved member of the Force, he, along with his handler PC Jimmy Grieves, was one of the stars of the very popular TV series Police Interceptors! During his service, RPD Gunner recovered thousands of pounds worth of drugs and cash and shortly before his retirement, recovered a large haul of drugs hidden in a false floor in a vehicle. RPD Gunner retired to a new loving home where he has become an expert at chilling with his paws up!

Unfortunately, since retiring, RPD Gunner has been plagued with a reoccurring health issue with a persistent infection that has resulted in significant vets bills for his new owner, courtesy of several operations and a CT scan (costing £1000 alone) to try to identify a cause of the infection and the subsequent treatment.

This has all occurred during the pandemic when fundraising opportunities for COLLARS have been exceedingly scarce. COLLARS are helping RPD Gunner’s owner and will be doing so on an ongoing basis as this will be a condition that will require frequent veterinary treatment, however due to the impact that the pandemic has had on our funds, COLLARS (we) are making a special fundraising appeal to help with RPD Gunner’s veterinary bills to date. Help us to help support this canine hero in his hour of need!

A little bit about us! COLLARS is an independent not-for-profit fund that has set up to help support the Police dogs who have served with Cleveland Police following their retirement from the Force. Insurance is difficult to obtain for these brave canine heroes and therefore by raising funds, we intend to step in and provide financial help towards their veterinary bills. This should allow them to get the best healthcare possible, ensuring that they have an excellent quality of life in their retirement years.
