I am Oscar Richardson III and even though I hate to ask I need some help. On the evening of September 4th, while riding my motorcycle, I was struck from behind by another vehicle causing my bike and I to crash. My bike exploded, igniting it and myself in flames. Even though I was wearing all of my Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) I suffered 3rd degree burns on 80 percent of my face and body, my left hand and wrist was amputated due to the severity of my injuries. Once at the hospital I was rushed into emergency surgery and medically induced into a coma. My family was repeatedly told that there was a very slim chance that I would live, but 4 months and 14 surgeries later, I am here recovering to tell my story. In the midst of all of this, I was dropped from my civilian insurance while in the coma due to the premium not being paid so now I pay for my medications, equipment, and supplies out of pocket which has tapped all of my savings and created financial hardship. My family has been a constant rock during this time and have sacrificed everything to help me through even their own jobs. I have applied for service benefits and am waiting to hear if I will be approved. Thanks so much for visiting my page and thinking about me.
