Help one cat and save many

One female cat can be responsible for up to 20.000 cats in 5 years. So with spaying just ONE, we can PREVENT thousands. How about if we spay 100?

In Slovenia there is a big problem with feral and stray cats. No matter how many we save and find homes for, there are always thousands out there and they keep having kittens. The only way to reduce the population is with spaying and neutering. This is why we would like to raise money to spay 100 feral cats and return them to their location.

Who are we?
Mačja hiša (Cat house) is a non-profit organization for homeless cats in Slovenia. We help cats by giving them veterinary care and temporary homes with best possible care until they are ready to find new homes with responsible owners. We also educate on important animal welfare issues and provide information on responsible ownership.

In 2013 we found new homes for 321 cats and financed 274 spay and 234 neuter procedures, 703 vaccinations against infectious diseases, 354 FIV/FeLV tests and 419 microchips for cats.

We also finance TNR (trap-neuter-return) programmes across Slovenia to reduce the population of feral cats and this is what we need additional funds for.

Why are feral cats problematic?
- they reproduce uncontrollably,
- there isn't enough food for all of them (not all cat colonies are cared for by people),
- most live in terrible conditions,
- low life expectancy,
- fast spreading of diseases can be dangerous.

If we reduce the number of feral cats, we can also improve their living conditions.

Why should you support our cause?
Because there is a lot to be done with just one spay procedure. No amount given is too small.

With spaying we prevent:
- numerous kitten litters; these kittens can have their own kittens in just six months,
- chance of diseases which can spread from mom to kittens,
- health issues (risk of cancers of the ovaries, uterus and mammary glands, developing pyometra),
- pregnancy related exhaustion; cats can have 2-3 litters a year, which can be damaging to their health.

Spaying for one cat costs approx. 35 €. Because of fundraising costs, we are hoping to raise 4.000 € which will cover spaying of 100 cats. Any additional funds will be used for financing neutering and/or more spaying procedures.

Every donation will be much appreciated. Thank you!
