In collaboration with Puppy Puddle Siargao and the Philippine Pet Birth Control Center (PPBCC), we are raising funds to organize a 3-day mass spay and neuter event for cats and dogs in Siargao, Philippines. 

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
Overpopulation is the root cause of animal suffering in Siargao. COVID-19 has made the problem worst, reducing people's ability to feed and care for dogs and cats as companion animals. Growing numbers of companion animals are facing high mortality, malnutrition, abuse and diseases.

WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?
The best way to address overpopulation is mass sterilization (spaying and neutering), as it helps to minimize the numbers of unwanted pregnancies and litters. In turn, lower amounts of unwanted animals and reduce the possibility of dangerous diseases, such as rabies.

WHO'S INVOLVED?
> Puppy Puddle Siargao (www.puppypuddlesiargao.com) is a non-profit organization aiming to improve the quality of life of street animals and pets of underprivileged communities in Siargao Island. 
> The PPBCC (www.ppbcc.org) is a foundation in Manila of highly trained vets dedicated to providing low cost spay and neuter services across the Philippines. 

HOW MANY CATS & DOGS WILL BE FIXED?
We anticipate fixing at least 80-100 animals per day and up to 50 animals per day. This means that a 3-day sterilization event can result in up to 450 fixed dogs and cats. 

WHAT ARE THE COSTS? 
The anticipated cost for a 3-day clinic based on 250 animals is $3500. Here's the breakdown of costs. 
> PPBCC vet services: FREE; the vets are generously sharing their time and expertise at no cost
> PPBCC vets return flights (Manila-Siargao): $600
> Operation cost for 1 animal: $10 (including anesthesia, sutures, & antibiotics) 
> 200 syringes: $25
> Anti-rabies vaccine: $2 per vaccine (we anticipate to vaccinate 40 animals per day)
> Anti- mange medication: $15 per bottle (each bottle treats 100 animals)
> Dog food: $40 per 20kg sac, we tend to use two sacs per event
> Lunch for vets and volunteers: $30 per day
> Flyer printing: $20
