As most of you know, Illini State Park is home to a forever growing feral cat colony. The park ranger has decided to place a feeding ban to try to eliminate the cat issue. I’ve been very successful in trapping several young kittens that are doing great living in a home and beginning to enjoy interaction with humans. I believe with patience, time, and spaying/neutering these cats will go on to make affectionate house pets. But as always this doesn’t go without cost. I currently am housing 4 males that are approximately 12 weeks, 2 two week old bottle babies, a 5 week old female that is improving after meds for an upper respiratory infection, three 10 week old kittens and an adult female. All cats need a dose of Capstar to kill the fleas that they are infested with. Paws for a Cause, Snip in Joliet and Naws in Mokena are all vets within a not too far proximity that work with ferals to spay/neuter. That ranges anywhere from $60-$80 per cat. They also need to be tested for a variety of feline only viruses. So we’re looking about $100 per cat. So far my family has paid for all the vet visits, food and formula out of pocket. In order to get more done, faster I’ve decided to start a Go Fund me since it seems like there’s quite a bit of people that are looking for a way to help these cats. Thank you for everyone that donated. Today 8-20, I was able to take this sickest kitten to Novak-Rinker Vet and get medications for the whole group. Once everyone is feeling better and meds are completed they’ll be getting spayed/neutered.

***All cats that I’ve trapped are going to Just Animals on September 10th and September 25th for spays/neuters.

***As of September 20th I have trapped 20 cats and kittens from Illini Park. This includes several pregnant females. All cats excluding the moms will be spayed/neutered by October 10th and will be going up for adoption.
