You never think it's going to happen to you, or a loved one. Until it does. And then you find a way to kick fear in the backside, you rally, you stay strong, and you fight like a Spartan....
On April 22nd Michelle ran her first half marathon. The next day she started feeling poorly, and at first thought it was due to the race. Continued symptoms led Michelle to her HCP, and she was sent for a CT scan, followed by colonoscopy, and PET scan.
On May 1st, Michelle was diagnosed with stage 3C rectal cancer. The plan was quickly established for IV chemotherapy as the mass is too large for surgery at this time. Her port was placed last week for treatment to begin June 4th. 5 cycles of IV chemotherapy are planned, and additional oral chemotherapy and radiation will be done prior to surgery. This is just the beginning of a long journey for Michelle and her family. As most of us know, there are so many expenses associated with treatment. Funds raised will help mitigate medical expenses, and give to this family what they so often give to others. Unused funds will be donated to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.
The Benner's are an amazing family, who have given so much of their love and support to their friends and families over the 15 years I have been blessed to know them. Let's show them all the love, support, and prayers we have, and help Michelle, Paul, and Savannah stay Spartan Strong. We are better together!
