SparkVision: Empower Youth through literacy & representation
Donation protected
The underrepresentation of women, particularly from minority backgrounds, in IT and cybersecurity is a pressing issue that initiatives like Brown Girls In Tech aim to address.
Fund our SparkVision Fund by making a donation to help us provide 10,000 career books to organizations and groups that serve underrepresented girls and boys. Kids will only aim to be, what they see. It is important that we provide them with resources that show them the various opportunities that are available to them. Your donation of $16 will cover one book plus shipping costs. Our current goal helps us reach the 'half-way' mark.
We are excited to introduce a series of groundbreaking youth books created to inspire and empower Black and Brown youth to explore exciting careers in S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), IT, and Cybersecurity. These four books—"I Can See...Me," "I Can See...Me Too," "I Can See...My Future," and "I Can Be..."—are designed to help young readers see themselves as future innovators and leaders in fields where their representation is greatly needed.
Why These Books Matter:
Our mission is to spark curiosity, ignite ambition, and ensure that every child knows their dreams are valid and achievable. Each book focuses on different aspects of career possibilities:
- "I Can See...Me" encourages young girls to envision themselves thriving in diverse S.T.E.A.M. fields.
- "I Can See...Me Too" spotlights IT and Cybersecurity careers for girls, preparing them to lead in the digital future.
- "I Can See...My Future" explores careers that will be in high demand by 2035, like *Data Detectives* and *Vehicle Cybersecurity Analysts,* showing kids how they can shape the world of tomorrow.
- "I Can Be..." empowers young boys to dream big and pursue opportunities in S.T.E.A.M., IT, and Cybersecurity, highlighting their limitless potential.
These books not only highlight technical skills but also emphasize the importance of innovation, problem-solving, and confidence. They serve as powerful tools to encourage students to believe in themselves and consider careers that they might not have otherwise imagined.
Why This is Important for Your Students or Members:
Representation matters. For many young people, seeing individuals who look like them succeeding in diverse and dynamic careers can be life changing. These books provide relatable role models and practical career insights, helping to build the confidence and motivation students need to pursue these paths. By incorporating these books into your programs, you will be taking a proactive step in preparing your students or members for a future that is increasingly driven by technology and innovation.
How You Can Use These Books:
- Include them in your library or resource center.
- Use them in workshops or career exploration programs.
- Gift them to students or members as part of your organization’s commitment to education and empowerment.
- Incorporate them into lessons on career readiness and diversity in S.T.E.A.M. fields.
Thank you for your commitment to empowering the next generation. By introducing these books to your students or members, you are helping to plant the seeds for a brighter, more inclusive future in tech and beyond.
Let’s inspire our youth to dream big, aim high, and lead boldly. Together, we can shape the leaders of tomorrow!
