Hi I’m Lydia! (I started this campaign for Clary)
My friend Clary is one of the strongest, funniest, warmest individuals I know. I have known her for 3 years since meeting in University and I feel grateful every single day that I get to bear witness to her incredible magic in this world.
Clary is one of those humans that immediately lights up a room. She makes you feel good when you talk to her and she has all of the positive vibes. She knows her worth and value and that reflects in her deep sense of compassion and empathy for others.
When starting a new initiative or venture, folks often turn to close family members for financial assistance or investment. Unfortunately, due to family trauma, Clary has not been afforded the same opportunities.
In spite of the barriers and challenges that she faces, she works tirelessly to cultivate a livelihood that sets her up to thrive. And while she is doing incredible work, not only in her own life but also in her business, it’s not always easy. I have seen and heard from her on how being a black, queer, woman of colour, living with fibromyalgia, invisible illness and chronic pain impacts her life daily. Given these intersections, she faces barriers and challenges in accomplishing her personal and professional goals. Capital is something that would go a LONG way in supporting Clary. As a result, I set up this campaign for my beautiful friend to encourage YOU to donate. Look at this as an investment in not only Clary and her valuable life, but also her mission to support others who are living with similar challenges.
And if you haven't had the chance to meet Clary...
At the age of 17, Clary was in a car accident. I remember sitting down with her for coffee and listening to her confide to me the long journey of what came after. What resulted for the next 7 years was consistent, chronic emotional, physical, and mental pain. As a result, her health has become a full-time job: ongoing appointments, trying to manage the pain with different therapies and failing to find a type of work that would sustain her health costs but also wouldn't impede her healing.
In 2017, Clary was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a rare disorder that causes widespread pain to your body. I've seen Clary fight to maintain a healthy, quality life. With putting all available resources towards healing and overcoming an illness that has limited her in so many ways, this has not left her with many opportunities to invest money outside of her health.
However, she has chosen to use her story and gift for story-telling as a way to help others struggling with their mental health.
Clary came up with Spark Clarity as a mechanism to do this work. Spark Clarity in its first year has reached over 3000 people from 30 talks across Canada. Folks also see themselves in Clary's story while creating a community of self-love and acceptance.
She is a warrior and an inspiration for so many. I am proud to support people like Clary who inspire us all to invest in ourselves and live our best lives. Let's support Clary in supporting others!
